Business services are activities that assist a company without producing a tangible commodity. These include services like banking, warehousing, marketing and inter and intra-departmental communication. In other words, these are services that help a company with its day-to-day operations and improve employee productivity.
These can be physical or digital services and can involve a combination of both. For example, an office cleaning service may include a combination of physically cleaning and digitally tidying up your files, email inbox, and the like. Other examples of business services include the use of a consultant to provide expert advice, or a software company developing and providing a cloud-based software service that helps companies track their inventory and shipping processes.
For some businesses, especially those that operate on tight margins, business services can be a way to boost their bottom line. By outsourcing certain tasks to a service provider, a company can free up valuable in-house resources to work on more value-added activities. Service providers also often offer specialized expertise and experience that can be cost effective for some companies.
